Founded in 1969, Free Street Theater is dedicated to creating original performance by, for, about, with, and in Chicago's diverse communities.
The provider hosting our site went out of business without notifying any of its clients. We found out the hard way - when our website disappeared and all of our emails stopped working. The good news is that we are a LIVE THEATER COMPANY and do our best work the old fashioned way - human to human, in a big room with lots of other people.
We are working hard to get a new website up and running. In the meantime, here are some ways to connect with us:
To buy tickets for Epic Tales from the Land of Melanin: https://epictales.brownpapertickets.com/
To find out about upcoming auditions, workshops, events, etc, check out our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/freestreettheater/
For general inquiries, or to book us for a workshop, performance, or training, email freestreettheatre (a) gmail (dot) com
To check out an example of how we use theater to engage communities, read all about our journalism collaboration with ProPublica: https://www.propublica.org/article/propublica-illinois-free-street-theater-workshop-chicago
Website or no website, here is what is always true about Free Street:
-We are a multigenerational, multiracial, and multilingual theater company creating/incubating devised and solo performance by underrepresented Chicago artists.
--We are committed to creating performance by, for, about, with, and in Chicago's diverse communities.
-We are committed to equity and economic justice. We pay all of our artists and offer all of our programming for free/pay-what-you-can.

Founded in 1969, Free Street Theater is dedicated to creating performance by, for, with and about a wide range of participants; to challenging ideas of where theater belongs and who belongs in a theater; and to using theater to ask questions, prompt dialogue, and build community.
